White Powder on Leaves and Stems

by Carolyn Glover

Our Phalaenopsis orchids have recently developed a white powdery substance like a mold or mildew, maybe? on the leaves (particularly on the under side) and on the stems. There is also a clear sticky substance on some of the leaves. I can't find any literature on what this is or how to treat it. Have you seen this?

Sounds like mealy bug. Here is a test, dab one of the area with alcohol if it turns color from white to brown or gray then most likely meal bug if so try insecticidal soap and spray the leaves this should take care of the problem.
