Should I Repot My Rescued Orchids Again?

Hello Melissa,

This is probabily is a silly question but important for me: I had 2 almost dead orchids left at the place where I work. I took them home removed them from the original pots and replanted in one pot. Now that they are growing again and having new leafs and new roots should I reorganise them in 2 different pots or leave them growing together?

Thanks for your time.

Repotting Depends, Are The Orchids The Same Kind? Similiar Size?
by: Melissa

Hi and thanks for your good question.

Just so you know I do not think that there are any silly questions!!! Everyone learns from questions so thank you for letting me share your question with others.

Good for you that you rescued these little guys and are bringing them back to health. How nice that you saved them. Really excellent!

As to whether you should repot them into 2 different pots or leave them growing together: If you know what kind of orchids they are and could tell me that would really help. If they are the same kind of orchid (and maybe they are Phalaenopsis ???) then it would be fine to leave them in the same pot especially if they are not really really large plants.

Basicly, different types of orchids can have very different cultural needs, water, temperature etc. If they are the same kind of orchid and both of them are not already very large then it would be fine to have them in the same pot as they cultural requirements are the same. If they are different kinds of orchids, for example a Phalaenopsis and a Dendrobium then I would advise that you consider separating them into different pots so that you can give them the different care that each genus needs. But you may wish to wait a little while until they have stabilized completely from being "almost dead" and have someqwhat regained their health.

Send me a digital picture if you can and I will try to help you figure out what they are and what kind of culture they need.

Thanks for saving them. You may be surprised that sometime down the road they may reward you with blossoms.

Good luck!

Melissa
