Can My Orchid Re Bloom?

by Donna
(Mahopac, New York)

I received an orchid that had some white flowers on it. When the flowers died off, I was left with 2 sticks that looked dead on the top. I cut the top half of the stems off. Can this orchid still flower this way?

Thank You

Thank you, Melissa for letting me know "the line" was called a node. I thought it was but since I wasn't sure I went with visual description. Since I'm a novice I really appreciate learning from you :)

Can Work On Some Kinds Of Orchids
by: Melissa

I think Hali gave you a good answer. It has worked for her on a Phal. and a Sharry Baby Oncidium.

And by the way the "line" she has mentioned is called a node. It is where the blossoms come from. Often with some orchids if the stem is alive it will push a new flower spike from the node. But it takes quite a while. It can shorten the growing time some but usually will not give you a flower a whole lot sooner.

This has worked for me
by: Hali

After my orchids finish blooming in all the flowers fall off I have found that if I cut down as close as possible to the base above the first line/knot will help it rebloom. I am not a professional I call it a line? it is an actual crease in the stem of where the blooms came from. This has worked for my phal & sharry baby. I hope this helps you.

Good luck
